Vegetables play a very important role in our day to day meals. It gives you a good amount of minerals, vitamins, iron which is good for a healthy life. We have seen many people preserve vegetables for many days which is technically a wrong habit.
Here are some tips to store vegetables and keeping them fresh for more days.
1. Less moisture
Choose vegetables with lesser moisture content.
Vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, corn, peas, carrot, green beans, pumpkin, spinach can be stored for more days. Wash and store them immediately so that their moisture remains intact.
2. Storage and packaging
Use tight and moisture-proof containers.
Avoid using thin plastic bags.
Use good quality zip lock pouches that are durable.
3. Blanching and cooling
In this process, boil or steam vegetables for 5 minutes.
Then immediately put them into ice-cold water.
It helps to retain the colour, texture and flavour of most vegetables.
4. Transfer to containers
After boiling transfer veggies into ice water for a minute.
Drain it and dab them with a cloth to absorb excess water.
Now store them into the containers.
5. Freeze them.
you can freeze some vegetables for long use. veggies like green peas, corn, beans etc.
Use them as and when required.
